# Aeroacoustics: Physical principles and modeling approaches

## Course goals

- Learn to describe sound and its propagation.
- Understand the fundamental principles of aerodynamically generated noise, its physical origins and mathematical description.
- Be in a position to predict noise generated by moving bodies in motion.

## Pre-requisites

Basic understanding of fluid mechanics and partial differential equations.

## Course contents

- Introduction to physical acoustics and wave propagation
- Explanation of monopole, dipole and quadrupole noise sources
- Sound generation by bodies in motion
- Applications in helicopter/propeller rotors, jet noise, etc.

## Schedule

- 20 May: 10:30am to 12 noon
- 20 May: 2:00pm to 3:30pm
- 21 May: 10:30am to 12 noon
- 21 May: 2:00pm to 3:30pm

The lectures will be held in LH-111 (first floor).
