In these lectures I will begin with a brief recap of the lectures on hydrodynamic stability given recently by Prof. Kirti Sahu of IIT Hyderabad. I will follow this up with examples of flow instability arising from different physical processes. I will then discuss non-modal stability and its implications for linear and nonlinear processes in the transition to turbulence.
