The TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics (TIFR-CAM), located in Bangalore, India, has a vacancy for a postdoctoral project assistant in the field of data assimilation, particularly for applications in atmospheric and oceanic sciences.

One of the particular projects is to understand the dynamics of the Indian ocean and improve the predictions of ocean state through assimilation of data into the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) adapted to the Indian ocean. Specifically, the successful candidate will work on developing and implementing the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) method for assimilation of Argo float data into ROMS. He/she will also devise numerical experiments to expose the strengths and shortcomings of EnKF, and to develop more powerful methods for data assimilation.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor or Masters degree in atmospheric science, applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related field. The candidate will have ample opportunity and resources to develop his/her own research interests in any of these fields. Background in statistical methods and inverse problems, or nonlinear dynamics will be a plus. The annual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The candidate will have ample opprotunity for interactions with and visits to teams of scientists from within and outside India as part of various programs of TIFR-CAM and ICTS-TIFR.

Applicants should send a letter of intent, a statement of research interests, and a curriculum vitae including a list of publications and the names and addresses of three references to:
