Renormalization for the universal critical exponents of maps
Abstract
I will introduce certain critical phenomena, such as breakup of invariant circles, or existence of heteroclinic tangencies. There is a lot of numerical evidence indicating that the approach to criticality follows universal scaling behaviour. This leads to the description in terms of renormalization group (RG) operators and their fixed points. I will describe how the RG helps us understand the universal critical exponents.
