Workshop on Control and Numerics for Fluid-Structure Interaction Problems
June 29 -- July 1, 2015 TIFR-Centre for Applicable Mathematics, Bangalore
Fluid-structure interactions are encountered in many industrial, scientific and biological applications: aerodynamics, aero-elasticity, marine hydrodynamics, bio-medical flows (blood flow in deforming vessels), biology (animal locomotion), etc. Modelling of fluid-structure interactions leads to a system of coupled non-linear equations describing the flow dynamics in the fluid and the motion of rigid or deforming body. Despite several advances made in the field of computational fluid dynamics, both the analysis and the numerical simulations with/without controls are still very challenging in such coupled systems.
The workshop which is organized as part of the activities of Indo-French Center for Applied Mathematics (IFCAM), will lead to the frontiers of current research and trends in the fields of fluid-structure interaction models, numerical approximation and the control aspects. The goal of the workshop is to bring together experts in control theory, analysis and numerics in this field in order to encourage interactions and cross- fertilization across the disciplines.
Prior to the workshop, there will be an Advanced Summer School on Control and Numerics for Fluid-Structure Interaction Problems, from June 22-26, 2015 at TIFR-CAM. The workshop is meant to connect the lecture topics of the school to the active research fields of the present day.
