Advanced Summer School on Control and Numerics for Fluid-Structure Interaction Problems
22-26 June, 2015 TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics, Bangalore
Many physical phenomena deal with a fluid interacting with a moving or deformable structure. These kinds of problems have many important applications, for instance, in aero elasticity, biomechanics, hydroelasticity, sedimentation, etc. From the mathematical point of view they have been studied extensively over the past twenty years. The advanced summer school will be focused on Fluid-Structure Interaction problems. There will be mini-courses on modelling, numerical approximation and the control aspects of the models. A basic knowledge of PDE theory is a pre-requisite for the school.
The goal of the Summer School is to introduce the mathematical and numerical tools at a beginner level, so as to develop new skills in this very important and active research domain.
The Summer School will be followed by an International IFCAM-Workshop from June 29-July 1, 2015 at TIFR-CAM, Bangalore. Experts from all over the world working on all the three aspects will be presenting their work (see http://math.tifrbng.res.in/airbus-chair/Programs/fsi2015). The participants of the school are strongly encouraged to attend the IFCAM-Workshop.

Who can apply and how ?
Research scholars pursuing masters/PhD, post-docs, scientists, faculty, etc. in mathematics or engineering departments can apply for participation. Please email a two page curriculum vitae to fsi2015@tifrbng.res.in and also ask a referee to email a recommendation letter. Selected participants will be provided III AC train fare, boarding and lodging for the duration of the school. In your email, please indicate if you will attend the IFCAM Workshop or not.
